    Frequently Asked Questions

All data must be de-identified before being submitted to ARCHIMEDES. The responsibility for ensuring proper de-identification lies with the uploading project team. At ARCHIMEDES, we provide access to a range of free and open-source tools, as well as practical guidelines to help researchers understand and implement de-identification based on their specific data type.  As part of our intake process, we perform a basic quality control check to flag any obvious instances of personal health information (PHI) that may have been missed. However, this is not a full de-identification audit. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the uploader to ensure that all data shared through ARCHIMEDES is privacy-compliant and fully de-identified prior to submission  You can find out more about de-identification of data with our suite of de-identification toolkits.

To share data with ARCHIMEDES you must ensure appropriate consent and/or privacy considerations are in place prior to deposit of data. Data sharing consent language must be included at the time of REB application. Our team has developed data sharing consent templates here.

In addition, your institution will need to sign a data sharing agreement with ARCHIMEDES. Your data must not be subject to any additional contracts or legal agreements that prevent data sharing.
